Hall Electrical is your best choice for electrical services. Our electricians are licensed, competent, and experienced.

In New Zealand, work must be certified by a licensed electrician. They have all the training and experience required for delivering excellent services. Strict licensing regulations govern prescribed electrical work (PEW) in New Zealand. Only licensed electrical workers are allowed to perform prescribed electrical work.

You need to check whether your electrical worker is licenced. There are two ways to do that. Prior to commencing work, check your public register to see if the electrician you hired is licenced. Another option is to ask for your electrical worker’s licence card. If they have one, this means they are updated on current safety procedures and they meet electrical standards. After work is done, be sure to ask for an Electrical Safety Certificate and a Certificate of Compliance.

You can check whether an electricain holds a current license by going to the EWRB.

New Zealand law requires electrical workers to certify specific work. This ensures that work done complies with safety requirements and is performed by an authorised person.

Hiring unlicensed people can be dangerous because they might lack the skills required to do things right. This is one of the risks of hiring unlicenced people – you might need to hire someone else to fix things for you, not to mention dealing with the dangers that you might encounter if they deliver sub-par work.

At Hall Electrical, we’ve got licensed electricians on call to provide for your every need. Our electricians are licensed by the New Zealand Electrical Workers Registration Board. You’re sure to hire experienced and skilled electrical workers who have the licence to perform electrical services in New Zealand.
We provide excellent services performed by licenced professionals who are skilled and certified by the government to be competent. Our electricians get things done right the first time so you avoid the hassle and risks of rework.
Hall Electrical has been providing excellent services in the Auckland area for over 40 years’ experience. Whether you need installation, maintenance, or repair, we’ve got everything covered. Our team of licenced professional electricians are ready, willing, and able to provide the electrical services you need. You’re just one phone call away from professional electrical services. As an Auckland electrician we are proud to serve all neighbourhoods and areas. The wider Auckland area is our playground and we are so happy to help people with their electricity. This month we thought we would highlight one of the common jobs we perform, this time in Mount Roskill Auckland.

If you ever find you don’t have any hot water, your first instinct will most likely be to call a plumber. After all, it’s an issue with your plumbing. Ironically, oftentimes it is an issue that a plumber cannot fix. If you have an electric hot water cylinder then you will need to call an electrician if your electric element is broken.

A common occurrence for us is getting a call from a client who has been told by a plumber to find a top rate Auckland electrician. This Mount Roskill home gave us a ring with a busted hot water cylinder element. This meant that although the plumbing was fine, the electric element which does the actual heating was not working.

There are many reasons a hot water cylinder element may not be working. Often they are simply old. These elements tend to go through a lot of heat stress through their lifetime, heating up and down 24/7 for years on end.

This is one of the more simple connections, and any honest electrician should charge you fairly for this service. In this instance, we had a look at the Mt Roskill client cylinder and determined it was actually the thermostat which was not working. This controls the temperature of the hot water. So, we simply replaced it with a brand new one. The client was left happy, as their hot water was restored and they didn’t have to buy a whole new cylinder.

Sometimes elements jam and can’t be removed or the cylinder can’t be drained. In this case a plumber will need to be called to fix the cylinder.

If you’re looking for an honest Auckland electrician, give Hall a call. We service all Auckland suburbs so don’t hesitate to give us a call at 0800 422 973 or contact us online for a free quote.

With gas prices soaring higher by the day electric cars are becoming more and more enticing. The savings offered by an electric car are undeniable. However not every electric car can just simply plug into the wall. That is why this Kingsland resident called Auckland’s favourite electrician. Hall Electrical offers a premium service to supply and install EV chargers to Aucklanders. However this Kingsland client had their own charger and we were happy to simply install it. Depending on your brand of electric vehicle you may need a specific EV wall charger. In this case this client had a BMW wall charger to match their brand new BMW EV.

The first step involved installing the cable and isolation switch to supply the car charger. We use a type B 40ma RCD and a 32 amp breaker also to ensure safety. Once livened and tested we could move on. Lastly we mounted the BMW EV wall charger where the client had requested and then connected everything up. One final liven and test upon completion and everything looked perfect.

We were extremely pleased with how this turned out, and the client was extremely satisfied with their new charger. We plugged it into the car to make sure it was all working correctly. Sure enough their new electric BMW was charging faster than ever.

With the world transitioning to greener energy we can absolutely expect to see more of this type of work in Auckland. If you are thinking about getting an electric vehicle or already have one then call Hall Electrical at 0800 422 973 or contact us online to book an EV charger installation.

This week we visited a Grey Lynn home to do some quick electrical fixes. This home had an old broken power outlet that desperately needed replacement. This client was fixing up their kitchen. Part of that involves electrical repairs to the current home’s wiring and adding new power plugs. In this case the damage was surface level, so the wiring underneath was still usable.

When moving power outlets, it is important to work alongside other tradesmen to assure the client isn’t left with ugly holes in their walls. Step one is to remove the old power point. This is more than just pulling it out from the wall. The entire box needs to be pulled out and the wiring in the wall fixed up.

Next, we have to cut a hole in the new desired location for the power outlet. Usually, if the new location is close enough to the old location we can use the wiring from the old outlet. If there is not enough cable to cover the distance to the new location, we would have to run new wiring.

Lastly, we wire up the new socket and fit it into the new hole. In this case we installed double outlets. However we can also install single power outlets, or even outlets with USB sockets for charging things such as your phone.

We tested the new sockets and everything checked out fine. If you need electrical repairs or installations done for your Grey Lynn house then call Hall at 0800 422 973 or contact us online to get a quote.

This week we were blessed enough to be called out to Parnell for some easy and fun electrical work. Being an Auckland wide electrician we never hesitate to take on work in any suburb.

The client was looking to install a sensor / security light at the entrance of their Parnell home. Fortunately for this client we offer a pre-made quote on our website. Using our book a service feature they were able to get a price confirmed quickly.

After a short phone call we confirmed all the details of the service before sending out one of our Parnell electricians. Firstly, cables needed to be run from a source of power and then connected to the security light. Next, this light needed to be connected to a switch. In this case a regular single switch was changed to a double. This way the homeowner could disable the sensor light, if so desired. The last step was to tidy everything up, making sure everything was flush and any debris from the installation was swept up. Overall, the installation was a breeze, as the whole job took only a few hours.

We left knowing another client was left satisfied. We are proud to be a reliable and quality electrician, providing a no fuss experience for our clients. If you need a Parnell electrician for any job we’re up to it.

A popular electrical installation in 2022 is sure to be an extractor fan installation, like the one we recently completed in these Grafton flats. Grafton electricians have their work cut out for them. As many of these older homes lack an extractor fan in the bathroom or kitchen.

Healthy Homes Standard

As of the 1st of July all renewed tenancies must now comply with the healthy home standard. Concerns over mould and dampness have led to regulations to protect the tenants of rental homes by requiring extractor fans. Poor ventilation is harmful to one’s health. So if you are concerned about mould and dampness in your home’s bathroom consider installing an extractor fan.

Grafton Electrician to the rescue

Being electricians in the Grafton area for over 20 years we were happy to spruce up a set of local rental properties. Built in the 1970s, these homes were hit hard by the new healthy homes standard. So, the landlord needed an affordable solution to bring their properties up to the standard. Not wanting to cheap out on the health of their tenants they opted for an extractor fan slightly over powered for the flats small bathroom.

Any room with a shower or bath must have new fans with a minimum diameter of 120mm. We offer an extractor fan with a diameter of 150mm to ensure all excess moisture is removed.

The extractor fan installation in these Grafton flats was straightforward. As we are able to both supply and install the extractor fan. Rather than needing to install a new switch we are able to set up the fan to turn on with the light on the same switch.

Overall the property manager was left happy and all of their Grafton properties passed their healthy home inspections. If you need a Grafton Electrician to install an extractor fan in your home or rental call 0800 422 973 or contact us online.

We were recently called out to be the electrician for a home in the Auckland suburb Freemans Bay. Although it was a nice quick job, it was the type of job that made a huge impact to the home. So, when people ask us what electrical work, they should get done I can add installing a dimmer switch to the top of the list.

Being a Freemans Bay electrician, we have seen it all and done every job. So, there are always a few jobs that we love. Installing a dimmer switch is always a fun one. It is relatively easy work, and it always puts a big smile on the clients face.

We have been the electrician for quick residential work but also for larger renovations and new builds. We have noticed many homes not including a dimmer in their design. This really confuses us as it is a super simple job that requires mostly just wiring up a special dimmer switch.

Great indoor lighting can make a world of difference to any home. The aesthetic benefits good lighting bring to a room really make living in the house that much more comfortable. Dimmer lights give your rooms mood a lot of versatility. Whether is be bringing the lights down for a fancy dinner date, or just to give some ambient light while watching a movie with the family. Lighting does wonders for the room and its mood.

Electrical rewiring can be a nightmare for any homeowner, which was especially for this Eden Terrace home. Being such a historic suburb of Auckland, Eden terrace is rife with old homes desperate for an electrical rewire. This homeowner had recently purchased the property, intending to renovate and eventually live in the house. However, once they realised the scope of the electrical rewiring they struggled to find an electrician capable to complete the task at hand.

Electrical rewiring is a big task that can cause a lot of disruptions so it’s important to know what is going on. As this job was part of a larger total renovation, the client actually managed to breeze through the process. This is because their builder was able to act as the project manager for them. This allowed them to relax and focus on things that were important to the,/. However, if you are planning a rewiring and are worried about the prospect of having to be a project manager, worry not. We are happy to take care of all the electrical planning on your behalf.

When it comes to rewiring it’s important to consider your attachment to the property. If it’s an investment property you might not want to even rewire. However, there is certainly an argument to going ahead with a full rewire, as it can increase the value of the property.

If it is your family home this is where electrical rewiring can get fun. This Eden Terrace home was barely functional for the client. Sick of their appliances sharing a socket they were able to add all the outlets they could ever need plus a couple more.

Overall this Eden Terrace electrical rewiring cost the client just over $8,000.However a more basic rewire can cost as little as $3,000. If you are interested in rewiring your home call 0800 422 973 or contact us online.

As the favourite Auckland Central City electrician, we were called to retrofit and modernize an apartment complex’s outlets. Looking to update their apartments to be more aligned with modern expectations we replaced several power outlets with USB power outlets. These outlets have two integrated USB ports alongside the standard two power sockets.

Almost all modern devices are charged via a USB connection. So why not build USB ports into the power outlet. By doing this you free up a power socket that would otherwise be used on a phone’s power brick. Removing the need for bulky and ugly multi plugs.

The job was very straightforward. First we removed the old wall socket and stripped the wires. Next we wired in and fitted the new USB power outlet and it was done. The only thing left to do was test and check everything worked properly. The process was extremely quick and the owner and tenants of this Auckland Central City building were left very happy.

If you need an electrician in Auckland Central City, or are interested in upgrading to USB power outlets, then contact the team at Hall Electrical. You can call 0800 422 973 or contact us online for a quote.
