The Electrical Contractors Association of New Zealand (ECANZ) has announced the finalists of the 2013 ECANZ Excellence Awards. Hall Electrical is proud to celebrate becoming a finalist in the Lighting Category. Congratulations to the Hall Electrical team!

Judging was completed in June with the finalists announced shortly afterwards. The finalists will attend an awards dinner held at the Langham Hotel in Auckland on Friday 23rd of August. The winners will be announced at the awards dinner. Not only is it wonderful for the Hall Electrical team to be recognised, it’s also exciting for our clients.

Electrical Excellence with a Residential Electrical Project
In contrast to the other finalists, Hall Electrical entered a residential home in the awards. Most of the other 17 finalists (3 finalists for each of the 6 categories) have entered work based on commercial projects. The home we entered utilises a number of interesting design elements that set it apart from standard homes. To view more details about the Karaka Homestead

Earlier this year, Hall Electrical Senior Apprentice, Markham Jefcoate entered the ECANZ challenge. The ECANZ (Electrical Contractors Association of New Zealand) Challenge is an electrical industry competition to find the NZ Electrical Apprentice of the Year. We are proud to announce Markham received the 3rd highest score in the Auckland Region for the Domestic/Commercial category.

Contestants in the regional round of the national award competition were put through a series of practical tests and challenges. Such tests are designed to simulate real world situations and highlight ‘outstanding individuals with a flair for either domestic/commercial or industrial work.’ Markham did himself and Hall Electrical proud by performing extremely well in a number of these tests. Congratulations Markham!

The ECANZ Challenge is one way apprentices can test themselves and receive recognition as top performers. It is also a great motivation for younger members of the team to entry the competition in subsequent years. Hall Electrical has recently taken on a number of Junior Apprentices, so we look forward to challenging our Apprentices to compete in the years to come.

Hall Electrical is a growing company. In May, two new positions became available. We are pleased to welcome two new Junior Apprentices to the Hall Electrical team, Josh Taylor and Josh Silk.

Josh Taylor lives in Grey Lynn and has always enjoyed practical ‘hands-on’ jobs. Immediately before starting a Hall Electrical Josh T was a Gelato chef responsible for a range of duties. His long term goal is to become a qualified electrician and joined Hall Electrical to fulfill this goal.

Josh Silk was living in Omaha and has just recently moved to Birkenhead in his first week of employment at Hall Electrical. Josh S has studied Electrical Engineering at Unitec, completing his first year certificate in 2012. Josh S has also worked for two previous electrical firms gaining vital experience and basic practical knowledge. By continuing with his study and entering the electrical apprenticeship program, Josh S’s goal is to quickly gain his practicing licence.

Hall Electrical has taken on a new Senior Apprentice Electrician. Welcome to Markham Jefcoate. Markham has come to Hall Electrical after completing a large part of his Apprenticeship with an old employee of Hall Electrical. Markham has a high skill level and strong customer service focus. Both attributes fit well with Hall Electrical’s company culture.

Markham previously worked as a building labourer before he decide to go to tech and start the process to become an electrician. This has given him a good understanding of the building process, particularly home and commercial renovation projects.

A resident of West Auckland, Markham is looking ahead to the future, and will complete his qualifications within the next year. He is also keen to experience the variety of work that comes with being a part of the Hall Electrical team.

Operations Manager: Dave Morrison
With the rapid growth Hall Electrical has achieved in the last two years the need arose for someone to help Phil with the day to day running of the company. Dave Morrison, who has been with Hall electrical 17 years, has now been appointed to the new position of operations manager freeing up Phil’s time to further promote and grow the company. Good luck in your new role Dave.

New Team Member: Mark Tabrum
In early May Mark joined the team specialising in repairs for our very special commercial and domestic clients. Previously Mark had installed home ventilation systems until he got the passion to further his studies and become a qualified sparky. Before joining us Mark had been in full time study to complete his training.

Mark loves his sport coaching 3rd grade rugby league for the Howick Club during the week and playing 20/20 cricket on a Monday night. He has also recently rejoined the Howick Golf Club hoping to get back to the 11 handicap he had as a 19 year old.

New Apprentice: Ben Hepburn
With two of our apprentices, Johnny and Cole, nearly out of their apprenticeships it was time for Hall Electrical to look for more “boys” to train. Ben started with us in early August on a trial run and has quickly adapted into his new role.

Nicknamed “Fish’ because he is the new fish in a big pond his early morning chores include emptying the rubbish bins and getting the boss a coffee. With a bit more training he will be promoted to the vacuuming. Ben’s interests include soccer, softball and water polo.
